NASW Proud of ‘Road Map’ to Suicide Prevention

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is pleased to announce that last month, the Trump administration issued its “road map” for preventing suicide among veterans. NASW provided input on this road map that was mandated by an executive order signed into law in March 2019 and is part of the $53 million President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End the National Tragedy of Suicide (PREVENTS) initiative. Veterans have a suicide rate that is 1.5 times higher than that of civilian adults. Overall, the number of deaths by suicide in the United States have risen 35 percent since 1999, and suicide is now the second leading cause of death for people aged 10 to 34 and fourth for those aged 35 to 54.
