Texas AG’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit Takes Down $70 Million Healthcare Fraud Scheme

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that Dr. David Young, 61, of Fredericksburg, Texas, was convicted by a federal jury for causing the submission of more than $70 million in fraudulent healthcare claims. Young wrote fraudulent prescriptions for medically unnecessary orthotic braces and genetic tests for more than 13,000 beneficiaries and received $475,000 in illegal kickbacks from providers. Young was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, and three counts of false statements relating to healthcare matters, each carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for a later date.
