South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that his office’s Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit (VAMPF) has arrested Jannie C. Johnson, 74 years old, of Camden, SC, for Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult and Breach of Trust with Fraudulent Intent, value $10,000 or more. Johnson was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on January 3, 2025. An investigation by VAMPF and the Sumter Police Department revealed that, between June 22, 2023, and March 21, 2024, Johnson is alleged to have knowingly made unlawful and unauthorized use of the funds and assets of a vulnerable adult. Specifically, it is alleged that Johnson, while entrusted as the victim’s power of attorney, converted $75,000.00 of the victim’s funds for her own personal use. The victim, a vulnerable adult under South Carolina law, resided at Wildewood Downs Assisted Living Facility in Columbia at the time of the alleged misconduct.
