Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced the sentencing of Brittney Georgette Payne, 33, of Baltimore, Maryland, relating to the theft of a debit card from a resident of Keswick Multi-Care Center, a nursing home. On June 12, 2024, Payne entered a guilty plea to theft scheme valued between $1,500 and $25,000 before the Honorable Lynn Stewart Mays of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. On September 12, 2024, Judge Mays sentenced Payne to five years in jail, suspending all but ninety days. Judge Mays also ordered that Payne be placed on five years of supervised probation, during which time she is prohibited from providing care to the elderly and vulnerable adults and to complete 100 hours of community work service. In April of 2022, Payne was working as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant for Keswick and several other nursing facilities. During the time that she was caring for the victim, she stole the victim’s debit card and made $2,586.13 in unauthorized purchases from online retail shops. In addition, she used the victim’s debit card to take rideshares from her home to her nursing shifts as well as for DoorDash delivered to her work sites.
