Doctor Pleads Guilty to Role in Antitrust Conspiracy That Limited Cancer Patients’ Options

A medical oncologist and former president and managing partner of Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute LLC (FCS) pleaded guilty to conspiracy to allocate oncology treatments for cancer patients in Southwest Florida. According to court documents filed in the US District Court in Ft. Myers, Florida, Dr. William Harwin participated in a conspiracy from 1999 to September 2016 to suppress competition by agreeing to allocate chemotherapy treatments for cancer patients to FCS and radiation treatments to another oncology company in Lee, Collier, and Charlotte Counties. Harwin pleaded guilty to one count of violating Section One of the Sherman Act. Sentencing will take place at a future date as set by the court.
